John Bapst Memorial High School is an independent co-educational high school in Bangor, Maine, in the north-eastern United States, founded in 1928. About 500 students in Grades 9–12 attend, around 13% of them international students. Since its founding the school has offered a rigorous college-preparatory education, and graduates have gone on to leading universities including Yale, MIT, Stanford and the University of Pennsylvania.
The campus sits in a historic residential neighbourhood of Bangor, giving students a safe, close-knit community in which to focus on their studies. Alongside the main John Bapst building, the campus includes a girls' residence hall, a boys' residence hall and the Head of School's residence, so international students live on campus.
Maine, nicknamed "Vacationland", is known for its starry night skies, clean air and clear water. Bangor is Maine's third-largest city, with about 33,000 residents — small, but with the amenities of a larger city, and a safe and easy place to live. The University of Maine is about 20 minutes away by car, so students can visit and get a feel for university life.
The climate is humid continental, with cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers. Annual precipitation is about 965 mm (38 inches).

John Bapst offers 25 Advanced Placement (AP) courses, so students can take on college-level work while still in high school. Alongside the core subjects of English, mathematics, science and social studies, the curriculum covers languages including Chinese, French, Spanish and Latin, as well as computer science, art, music and drama.
International students can take two levels of ESL (intermediate and advanced) to strengthen their writing, reading and speaking, and a TOEFL preparation course is also available, helping students move smoothly into mainstream classes.
A strong STEM programme gives every student a solid foundation in mathematics and science. Seniors who want to go further can work with faculty and mentors on independent projects that they present publicly, extending their learning in fine arts, global studies and STEM.
For students who love art, music and drama, the school offers a wide range of courses, including AP Studio Art and AP Art History. Musicals and concerts each fall and spring give students the chance to show their talents.
John Bapst has 44 faculty members, a student–teacher ratio of about 11 to 1 and an average class size of 16. In this small-school setting, teachers know each student well and support them closely from academics through to university applications.
